Electric Cars Muscle Cars

Would you buy a 750-hp electric muscle car?

John Wayland has spent a fair chunk of his adult life tinkering with a 10-second Datsun 1200 coupe. That’s good enough to garner the guy a spot in our book of personal heroes, but the fact that the car gets down the quarter with two nine-inch electric motors instead of a small-block V8 puts him in a category all his own. Now he wants to build electric conversions for classic muscle cars, starting with the Ford Mustang.

Hemmings has a brilliant write up on Wayland and his business partner Mitch Medford. It’s well worth the read. The question is: would you buy a classic Mustang with an electric motor in place of a ground-pounding 302? On the one hand, power is power, but something tells us we’d miss that loping cam. Then there’s the small matter of the price tag. Wayland and Medford call their business Bloodshed Motors, and the company will ask between $200,000 and $250,000 for a turn-key e-Pony. That’s a certain kind of bloodletting, alright.

Check out a video of Wayland’s Datsun, affectionately named White Zombie, below.
