Would you pay £50,000 for this ‘barn-find’ 1960 Mercedes 190SL?

A1960 Mercedes-Benz 190SL restoration project is coming up for auction with H&H Classics at its Duxford sale on July 26. The car is being offered with no reserve, although the auction house estimates that it is likely to sell for £50,000. The 57-year-old classic convertible was discovered in an old garage in Solihull by Mark Bryan of H&H Classics’ motorcycle department while he was valuing bikes for sale. He said: “What a great find. 1970 CHEVELLE SS454 RESCUED FROM A COLLAPSED BARN IN RURAL OHIO

Most avid car enthusiasts have heard at least a few tall tales about a rare vintage car parked in a barn somewhere. Most of us usually dismiss it as just that—a tall tale. Rumors of a 1970 Chevelle SS454 sitting in a collapsed barn in Ohio have swirled for many years around the Chevelle enthusiast circles. Solid proof confirming this story had never been available until May 2017, when a short cell phone video of the car surfaced, along with a contact email address. An email was quickly sent to…

TWO BRAND NEW UNTOUCHED 1987 GRAND NATIONALS FOUND IN A GARAGE!

According to the story on the Barnfinds website, this pair of Buick Grand Nationals was purchased new in 1987 and almost immediately parked in the owners garage. After nearly 30 years, the eccentric owner decided it was time to sell the cars, so he posted them on Facebook for $200,000. While the price kept tire kickers at bay, the story itself drew the attention of Grand National fanatic William and his buddy Shawn, who actually had the cash to make the purchase. The owner required some ridiculous hoop-jumping for the…

Some Barns Hide Better Unused Cars than Others

Barn Find Hunter is Hagerty’s web series about Tom Cotter going across America, only to find cars ranging from total trash to rarities you wouldn’t believe. And I’m talking about more than a 1980 Eagle 4×4 Turbodiesel. In North Georgia, Cotter’s walk started with a Rambler Marlin, a rare fastback with a 292 V8, a four-speed, power brakes, and not much else. When was the last time you saw one of those? Probably never, because AMC only built them for two years, sort of as a halo car. The owner wants $3000…

Really. This 1965 Sting Ray coupe lived in a shed for 36 years

Tucked away in a farmer’s shed in on the Great Plains of America since 1981, the old coupe had a coat of dust thick enough to almost entirely obscure the original Marina Blue paint. There was no hurry to move the 1965 Corvette, “being as we’re right in the middle of harvest,” Travis Snyder said. “It’s a 1965 Sting Ray; a 327, 365-horse original motor; original transmission, a four-speed. It’s Marina Blue with a Marina Blue leather interior.” Snyder owns a body shop in Ness City, Kansas, where he likes…

Miss Belvedere: The World’s Most Disappointing Time Capsule?

BY LUKE BATHER,  mentalfloss The world loves the nostalgia of a good time capsule story, but things don’t always go according to plan. In the case of Tulsa, Oklahoma, one time capsule that was supposed to yield buried treasure turned out to be a disappointment 50 years in the making. The year was 1957, and the city of Tulsa was celebrating the state’s 50th anniversary with a competition. The prize was a brand-new Plymouth Belvedere with only four miles on the odometer. But like any big PR stunt, there was a catch:…

The Tale Of The Lost Daytona Coupe

I was recently digging through old forum posts on various websites when I came across a photo of what was clearly a barn find Shelby Daytona Coupe. There wasn’t any information about it or a link, but it looked so incredible I decided I had to do some digging to see what I could find out about it. I eventually tracked the photos back to the Nevada Shelby Club, where I discovered that the photo was of the Missing Daytona Coupe. This story originally broke back in 2001, but I…

1968 SHELBY GT500 KR CONVERTIBLE BARNFIND,PARKED IN 1978

Nelson Bandy has been a longtime antique and vintage-car collector scouring the country for collectibles most of his life. Back in the 1970s, Bandy was very familiar with this 1968 Shelby GT500KR convertible and its rarity. “It was owned by a very young and recently married couple in Lobelville, Tennesee,” Bandy says. “I would stop them and try to buy the car every time I saw them driving around town.” Bandy’s persistence would pay off in the summer of 1978 when the owner priced the car to him. “I think…
